First photo: "It is only through knowing the wisdom of our elders that we are able to love and feel the pain of our people." - written at the February 25th Guna Revolution reenactment in the community of Digir (Isla Tigre).
¡Viva la Revolución Dule! The Guna Revolution is today! February 25th is a very significant day for the Indigenous Guna in Panama. I debated whether to write my own post about it, because obviously it's not my own story to tell, and I want to give it justice. However, I've had enough conversations with Guna over the years to know that one of the points of this day is to continue to share this part of Guna history and culture, to never forget how and what they fought for. The Guna have been a big part of my life for over 10 years. I've been fortunate enough to have experienced being in a community called Digir (Isla Tigre- some of you have been!) to experience how this day is commemorated and kept alive in Guna communities. I'm so grateful to Guna friends who have taken the time to tell me stories of this history.
